Perception and Reality

'Confidence without the goods to back it up = poser, liar, fake (ie. 30K Millionaires - Google it).
Confidence with the goods to back it up = the real deal.

Low confidence with the goods to back it up = the symptom of messed up Western society where "perception is reality" and looking good is valued over actually being good.'

What is the above going on about? Basically, they're saying you can only influence other people's perception to a certain degree.

As this person says:

'The fact is, if you're a short man, you can tell yourself that it's not an issue or that you are tall. But if you aren't, people will still see you as short.

Question for the "thoughts/attitude creates reality" people:

Everyone thought the Titanic was unsinkable. They didn't make an issue out of it. But that didn't prevent it from sinking did it?

On the morning of December 7, 1941, the American sailors at Pearl Harbor didn't make an issue out of being attacked. But they did.

The lesson is you can't control what others think, regardless of your own attitude about yourself.

I approached thousands of women thinking that I was hot and desired, but that didn't make me hot and desired. I never made an issue out of my race, but women did.'

In other words, if you're conventionality attractive but weak and useless on the inside, you'll still have a better chance than the opposite. A minority with an 'ugly' face and short stature will be turned down more often, regardless of their morals, attitude, or abilities. If you are poor/'ugly' others will only perceive your confidence as unwarranted.

From the early days of school and dating, to the adult life of work and marriage, one lesson holds true for the masses: if you aren't rich, beautiful, or distinguished, know your place.

The idea that confidence will triumph over centuries of established bigotry is naive. You can think you're God, but others will only see what they want to see.
